Kelly Tyler Posted on Sarah: Yes! Patrick Ness' Chaos Walking Trilogy is great so far. And, Jeff, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but Jude Watson is a pseudonym used by wrietr Judy Blundell. She is incredibly prolific (has written well over 100 books), but has only published one book under her own name. That book, What I Saw and How I Lied, won the 2008 National Book Award for Young People's Literature. She is still most famous for her Star Wars prequels. Just proves your point that guys probably are less likely to pick up a guy book written by someone named Judy.

You'd be surprised how some writers get their ideas. Don't I at least get marks for full attribution?

I love Brainiac, by the way.

first i want to say how interesting this was to read.
thanks for doing this.

also,
i just wanted to make a small correction. the shows that gay rappers do in new orleans are not for straight women and gay men/women in any remotely exclusive way.

when "sissies" talk about doing bounce music as opposed to "sissy bounce" they mean that their presence in the city is universal.

big freedia performs in straight clubs, for predominantly straight audiences 6 nights a week. maybe once a month she'll do a gay event or club, but this is mainstream culture here.

old people do it, little kids do it, white catholic private school kids do it (at school dances from the 3rd grade no less!). and the artists who make it who are the most popular right now happen to be (publicly) gay. that's all there is to it.

it's not a marginal music and these artists are not marginal artists. the men are, admittedly, there for the women in many ways, and they come out no matter who is on the mic. it just so happens that gay artists command the most attention right now. there are some unique reasons why, not the least of which is the safety and security they bring (by virtue of their personal histories) to the women in the crowd. but that's where the digression begins.

just wanted to make that clear.
the straight people feel just as represented by these gay artists as anyone else in the city. tho they may not ever wear a big freedia shirt down the street or anything.

thanks,
rusty

Has this been confirmed? I can't find confirmation anywhere, just blog posts linking to other blog posts. Has anyone inquired of Elaine Markson, or of Markson's children? There's nothing in any newspapers, certainly nothing citing a source. Could that be why "not a single newspaper or news outlet has thought to report this sad news"? Where did he die? When? Of what? According to whom?

I will tell you what I have seen these last few days I saw our beloved Stars and Stripes flag, the flag from Mexico and some flags from other countries. I saw children, parents and grand parents together in solidarity, my people the working class, they may not be sophisticated but they got the message heard. From publish reports the demonstrations included both US citizens and undocumented workers. This brought me a smile because I always enjoy seeing brothers helping brothers.

This reminds me of a parable from the good book where a Levite and Priest come upon a man who fell among thieves and they both individually passed by and didn't stop to help him. Finally a man of another race came by, he got down from his beast, decided not to be compassionate by proxy and got down with the injured man, administered first aid, and helped the man in need. Jesus ended up saying, this was the good man, this was the great man, because he had the capacity to project the "I" into the "thou," and to be concerned about his brother.

You see, the Levite and the Priest were afraid, they asked themselves, "If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?"

But then the Good Samaritan came by. And he reversed the question: "If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?"

As I see it, we should stand-up against a law is passed in anger and is against our Constitution/ Bill of Rights/ Declaration of Independence and is targets a specific group.

God bless all my brothers and sister that stood side by side with our brothers and sisters in need. When our judgment comes I know God will not discriminate by country of origin as men do.
