> Although the book sales are no where near as impressive as
> what’s happened with Amazon, being on 130,000 phones ain’t
> all that far behind the 240,000 Kindles sold so far . . .

Actually you are understating the case. First, assuming the 240k figure is true, which is not at all clear at this juncture, it took Amazon 8 months to achieve that figure. It took Fictionwise just 30 days to achieve approximately half the figure. And we did not have millions of dollars of free advertising (Kindle has been at the top of the amazon home page for 8 months almost without a break). Plus, eReader is not the only ebook reading software for iphone and ipod touch, there are several others that appear also to be getting tons of downloads.

It may well be that even if the 240k figure is correct there are already more people reading on Apple's handhelds (using all different kinds of reading apps) in just 30 days than Kindle achieved in 8 months.

In addition, we know which of our members have kindles because we sell unencrypted titles onto kindle. We have seen 10% of our kindle members *switch their new purchases to iphone compatible format and uploading to their iphones* in just the past 30 days, and more are switching every day. Do the math, 10% of device owners lost in 30 days with more fleeing each week, frequent reports of people stopping plans to buy new Kindles. It's not a good summer for Jeff Bezos. This recent spate of "news" could all be a smokescreen to try to convince people to buy kindles despite the facts on the ground.
